2009 HILA Walk in the Galilee

Families, groups, individuals, physically challenged, women battling cancer and those who have overcome it will join together during Succoth to raise awareness and promote the early detection of breast cancer and women’s health The walk will take place on Monday, 5 October 2009, (Day 2 of the Intermediate Days of Succoth) Start Time: 8:30 a.m. Start Point: Park Hamishpacha, Carmiel for a family happening
It all began 10 years ago when the Carmiel Misgav Women’s Forum visited their Partnership 2000 colleagues in Pittsburgh. The American Forum members excitedly told their Israeli visitors about their involvement in the Race for the Cure – a race that takes place annually in many different towns and cities throughout the United States to encourage women to take responsibility for their health. Regular check-ups help halt the spread of this disease and save lives!!!!

We have held a HILA Walk in the Galilee every year since then, hosted jointly by the Carmiel Misgav Women’s Forum and the Israel Cancer Association. And this year is no different – we are walking together to promote women’s health.
People come from all walks of life, from all over Israel and from Pittsburgh too. Many women are working hard to raise awareness – a school teacher currently battling breast cancer who will be on the walk together with her students who have come to show their support; a young soldier who enlisted her fellow soldiers from a training course to support her mother who is currently ill; the families of women who are fighting a daily battle against cancer; women who have fought the breast cancer battle and won. These

people will be joined by groups from large organizations, residents of the Galilee, Arabs and Jews, adults and children.
“The importance of this joint walk involving thousands of participants who will walk together through the city and the countryside is enormous because it gives our message wide-reaching exposure and the message cannot be ignored” says Gila Elbaum, Chair of the Women’s Forum.

Revenue from the walk will be used to fund ongoing activities organized by the HILA Center which offers cosmetic treatments for cancer patients as well as activities organized by the Women’s Health Center.
